Like Incognito, Brand New Heavies and Jamiroquai, Down to the Bone
is a jazz-funk group of the purest form. Spread Love Like Wildfire
is their new up-with-people musical celebration of life and the
world needs an album full of joy like this one. Songs like "Angel
Baby" featuring N'Dambi and "Wildfire Woman" are injected with a
seventies soul sound while staying firmly rooted in the nu-jazz
sound coming out of England these days. With remixes by Agent K
and Bugz in the Attic's Daz-I-Kue and tweaks by Neil Cowley from
Zero 7, dance floors will be alighted with their fresh sound this
summer and for a long time to come. Down to the Bone's groovy sounds
will be a joy for all lovers of rare groove and future funk.
Giant Step, Summer 2005
Down To The Bone, on it's sixth CD, continues to pump out
it's hard grooves and brassy horns that defy easy pigeonholing.
The core musicians remain the same, with producer and composer Stuart
Wade, Paul 'Shilts' Weimar on sax, Neil Angilley and Neil Cowley
on keyboards, Tony Remy on guitar ,Richard Sadler on bass and percussion
and Neal Wilkinson on drums. Like their 'chill' music counterparts,
the groove is, of course, the thing. Unlike many of those bands
, however, DTTB has incorporated more and more live music on it's
CDs, resulting in a warmer sound. Guest stars always make DTTB CDs
fresh and the big one here is flutist Jeremy Steig, who has performed
with legends like Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Bill Evans and Jan
Hammer. He adds a new sound to the DTTB's jams' Memphis Groove'
and 'Wildfire Woman'.
The standout radio track on 'Spread Love Like Wildfire' is 'Tiburon',
which was co-written by Tim Best, who assisted with the song 'Brooklyn
Heights' on the bands debut CD. The song has much of the same groove
as that classic CD. Like that work, the groove here is relentless.
and Down To The Bone remains one of the grooviest groove bands in
any musical genre
